Rottweiler Description:The Rottweiler (pronounced as ROTT-why-ler) is an ancient dog, believed to be descended from the Drover dogs of Rome. These drover dogs were brought to Germany by Roman army, and were crossbred with some local breeds of Rottweil (a small town in Germany) to produce a powerful dog. Rottweiler derived it name from the town Rottweil , initially was known as “Rottweil Butcher’s Dog” and later shortened to Rottweiler. They were used for cattle herding, bear hunting etc. By early 1900’s this dog gained popularity as guard dog and started working closely with police and military. The first Rottweiler registered by the AKC was in 1931, and now it has become one of the popular breed in the world. |
Rottweiler Care & Grooming:Rottweiler is an average shedder. Its straight and thick coat is easy to groom. Occasional brushing with a firm bristle brush is required to keep its coat healthy and it should be bathed only when necessary. The ears and eyes of the dog should be cleaned regularly and the claws should be trimmed properly. |
