Boxer Information

Boxer Description:

The Boxer was developed in Germany during late 1800’s. This breed was derived from several other mastiff type dog breeds. Boxer was originally used for hunting and holding prey, dog fighting etc,and perhaps the first breed to be employed as military dog in Germany. It was first imported to America during World War I and now has become one of the most popular breed in the world.

Boxer may derived its name from the way it stands up on its hind legs and batting at its opponent, appears as if boxing with its front paws. This is a medium sized and square built dog. Boxer has a very short muzzle with the lower jaw extends beyond the upper jaw; well proportioned head; wrinkle in forehead; broad and black nose; dark brown eyes; ears set at the highest points of the skull, either cropped or uncropped; front legs are straight and back legs are well muscled; tail is small, set high and generally docked. It has a short, smooth and shiny coat which lies tight to the body. The color of the coat comes in different shades of fawn and brindle, often with white markings.

Boxer is a very active, intelligent, dignified, agile, brave and obedient dog. He is very loyal to his family and mingles very well with children. This breed is sensitive and responsive to commands and is very easy to train, with proper training they can do well with other pets. He is cautious towards strangers and is an excellent watch dog. Boxer is a wonderful family pet apart from that he is used as Police dog and Guard dog.

Boxer Care & Grooming:

Boxer is an average shedder, its short and smooth coat is easy to groom. Its coat should be brushed occasionally with a firm bristle brush, and bathed only when necessary.

This active dog needs lots of daily exercise like long walk and jog. If sufficiently exercised it may do okay in an apartment life. They are sensitive to temperature so should not be exposed to very high or very low temperature. Some Boxers snore.

Boxer Health Problems:

Boxers are prone to some health problems like Epilepsy, hip Dysplasia, Cardiomyopathy, Arthritis, Back and knee problem, Thyroid etc.
